Clean Heat Market Mechanism

The Government’s new Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM) launches in January 2024.

This means manufacturers of fossil fuel boilers must now sell a percentage of Air Source Heat pumps proportional to their fossil fuel boiler sales. For every missed heat pump sale under the target, they’ll be fined.

For example, if a boiler manufacturer sells 50,000 boilers, in 2024 they’ll need to sell 2,000 heat pumps to avoid the fine. Manufacturers believe they will miss these targets and will have fines imposed on them.

What does this mean for you?

To offset these fines, manufacturers will increase the price of fossil fuel boilers from Monday 1st January 2024.

We’re working closely with suppliers to minimise the impact and keep you updated with the latest information.

For more information on CHMM, read this government document.

It explains that CHMM is key in the approach to progressing towards net zero. Providing the industry with a clear framework to make it cheaper, easier, and more attractive for homeowners to install a heat pump. Supported by the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, while keeping the choice to install a heat pump fully voluntary for your customers.
